Twitter, at twitter.com is a popular service where people tell others, both friends and the general public, what they are doing. They can also say where they are located. Some software applications, like Myallo HotList, can automatically update a members location.
Something that is very important to remember is that Twitter is open to the public at large, and that means if you send your location to Twitter, absolutely everyone can see it. You might not want everyone seeing your exact location.
If you like, you can tell Myallo HotList to send an approximate location to Twitter by setting an option. In that case, the location sent to Twitter (only) will typically be off by a few blocks.
You can also opt not to give Twitter any location. Simply don’t turn on the “Send my Location” switch in the Options for the Twitter Service.
When Myallo HotList sends a location to Twitter, it might be just a city name, a street and city, two cross streets, or a precise set of map coordinates (latitude and longitude). Which it sends depends on what is available at the moment. Map coordinates are always available because the device provides them. The accuracy of those can vary depending on your device model and other factors, and may be as exact as within a few meters. The less specific text locations come from the Internet, as Myallo HotList periodically calls upon geocoding services to translate the coordinates. If a text location is available, that is sent. However, coordinates are usually more up to date and that is what is usually sent. When coordinates are sent, they can be made approximate as outlined above.
You can completely remove Twitter from the Interface, and it will not be used at all. To do that, turn off the switch in the Settings Screen.
