The “Yelp” Service, at yelp.com, includes a website where people can enter reviews of businesses, among other things.

Myallo HotList uses the service to discover nearby businesses. It temporarily adds nearby businesses to the Radar Screen and  Places Screen. On the Place Screen for such a “discovered” location, you can touch “Show on Radar” to see its location on the map, “Get Directions” to go to the Maps application and see directions from your current location to it, or the “Yelp reviews” item to see the Yelp website page for the place, that includes user ratings and reviews.

Yelp has a great application for the iPhone, which is free and does more than Myallo HotList. Get it from the App Store!

Associating an Existing Place with Yelp

If you have a Place in your list that (for example) you added from your Contacts, and it is known to Yelp, you can also associate it with Yelp. Simply touch the “Yelp (touch to set up)” item on the Place Screen, and enter the phone number as described below.

Adding a Place Listed on Yelp

Myallo HotList normally calls upon Yelp automatically, adding “discovered” Places that Yelp says are nearby. However, you can add a business manually, if Yelp knows about it. To do this, you only need to know the phone number of the business.

From the Places Options Screen, touch “Yelp” in the “Add places from” section. A screen appears asking you to enter an “ID” for the business. In this case,  the “ID” is the phone number of the business. In the USA, the area code and number as ten digits is the ID (e.g. 2125556000). Outside of the US and Canada, include the international dialing code (e.g. +442079460000).

Myallo HotList shows the information Yelp found, and you can touch “Save” if it is correct, or “Cancel” if it is not. If the phone number does not match a business listing on Yelp, either an error message, or information on a nearby business is retrieved. With luck, it might be the one you wanted!
