Adding Contacts
So, your device has a Contacts list with many hundreds of People and Places, and it is easy to go to the People Options or Places Options screen and add them all in one step, but that may not be the best way to start things off. The things is, you may find that there are a lot of Contacts that you don’t want to add, since they will have no effect on anything.
If a Contact has an address, it can be a useful addition because that Person or Place will have an associated location. It will have a blip on the Radar, the proximity of other People and Places will affect its Hotness, and its proximity to nearby People and Places may affect their Hotness as well.
But a Contact that only has a name, phone number or EMail address has no location. They will not appear on the Radar and won’t influence anyone else’s Hotness no matter how you set their Basic Hotness. Those may not be useful to add.
For example, suppose a Contact is for a person at work, and you only have their name, organization and “work” address filled in. When added as a Person, this contact will have no location, because Myallo HotList will not place a “work” address in listing for a Person. So as a Person, it is not useful. When added as a Place, the “work” address is recognized and it would be useful to add.
Or, you may have a dozen Contacts for people who work at the same organization. All are for different people, but they all have the same organization name and “work” address. If you add all those contacts as Places, you will end up with a dozen listings for the same location, and you’ll end up wanting to delete eleven of them.
One strategy you might try is doing a little advance work. In your Contacts application on your PC, set up a group called “HotList People” and one called “HotList Places” and then add all the contacts you want to put in those lists into the groups. Then, with your device synced so it has those groups, it is easy to add all the contacts in the group in one step.
Note that a Contact may have URLs associated with them. If a Contact has a twitter.com URL (any URL in a form like “twitter.com/username”) then that Username will automatically be associated with the Person or Place. This is very handy and you might want to edit URLs into your Contacts before adding them to Myallo HotList.
What if you added all your Contacts and now you do see you’ve got hundreds you want to delete? Well, you could bite the bullet and delete them one at a time, or in a pinch, you could use the Nuclear Option – delete everything and start from scratch.
To delete everything, you have two options. You can delete the application from your device, then sync with your computer so it loads back a new, fresh copy. Or, you can ask Myallo HotList to delete its database, which will remove all People, Places and Things and all Hotness settings. To do that, go to the Settings Application. Look in there for the “HotList” item. In there, you will see a switch named “Delete Everything!”. Turn it ON. Then the next time you launch Myallo HotList, it will show an alert message saying it is going to delete everything. If you confirn by touching “Delete”, the deletion will take place. You can also touch “Cancel” if you change your mind. But once you touch Delete, your data is gone.
